While much of Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" video remains top-secret, MTV News scored a visit to the set Thursday night, and the teen superstar offered up some insight into what Beliebers will see when the clip drops.

"The concept of this video, I mean it's not like a steady concept," he explained on the Cali-based set in between shots. "It's not like 'Justin follows this girl to this spot.' No, it's a bunch of amazing scenes: Like a fire scene, we have an ice scene."

He continued that the video will also include some of his very fine dancing skills. "It's kind of like bouncing back and forth," he said. "And then there's scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It's fun."

Bieber and Tilley have worked together several times in the past, including on the VMA-nominated "U Smile," as well as "Never Let You Go," "Fa La La" (with Boyz II Men) and Chris Brown's very cinematic "Next 2 U," which features Bieber.

"The video's really good. Colin has done a great job," he said. "The lighting has been amazing and everything's been so unique and I haven't seen anything like it. So, I think people are going to be really surprised."

"Boyfriend" is the lead single off Believe, expected to drop later this year. The song was co-produced and co-written by Mike Posner and Mason Levy. The album will also feature some production from Timbaland, Diplo and will.i.am.

It?s better to have a brand that can grow and expand as the company grows. Try basing the company name on an attribute (the ?how?) rather than a location (the ?where.?)

It?s important to evaluate a company?s existing brand equity, the degree of name recognition by current and potential clients, before making a company name change. There is a point where a legacy name, based on the original owner?s surname, can become ?branded? in the minds of the consumer. EF Hutton is an example. Orville Redenbacher is another. But for most companies, these types of names become problematic. Here?s why?

For one, what happens when you go to sell your insurance firm, marketing company or consultancy with your last name on the front door? Will the new owner take ownership? Will they have to explain that you left? Are you building the brand on the business or on you?

What happens when you add partners? Do their names get added as well? What if the name is hard to say or spell? And does a surname have any intrinsic meaning that will help establish the brand message? If your last name happens to be Armstrong, then perhaps it would, but most last names are just empty vessels ? with not much to them. When I opened my first ad agency at the tender age of 26, I called it The Davis Agency, and had to explain it wasn?t an insurance company. We later rebranded to Octane ? ?High Performance Marketing.?

Both horses had a type of rabies virus found in skunks in Tennessee, although it is not known how they were infected.?The deaths of these animals serve as a somber reminder of the importance of rabies vaccination. Our pets, often including horses, are more likely to come into contact with wild animals than people are. Protecting pets with rabies vaccination can provide a barrier against rabies from wild animals,? said Health Commissioner John Dreyzehner, MD, MPH. ?Keeping our pets? rabies vaccinations up to date is an effective and important way to protect both them and our human loved ones.?

The best protection against rabies in household pets, horses and some other farm animals is rabies vaccination. Vaccination of dogs and cats is required by Tennessee law. Having companion animals vaccinated against rabies helps protect people from rabies, too. The Tennessee Department of Health reminds Tennesseans that preventing exposure of people and their pets to the rabies virus is a priority; please consult your veterinarian for more information.

Rabies is a virus transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal. Nationwide, 37 horses were diagnosed with rabies in 2010, the most recent year for which data are available. Do not attempt to assist, feed or handle wild animals. If a wild or stray domestic animal appears sick or acts strangely, report it to your local animal control agency. Bats in particular should not be handled. If a bat is found inside, in a swimming pool or brought home by your pets, use precautions and consult your local health department.

?People, especially young children and teenagers, are curious about nature and animals, but wild animals and unfamiliar pets may pose a health risk to them,? said Rand Carpenter, DVM, public health veterinarian with TDOH. ?It is important that parents and other adults educate children to observe wildlife from a safe distance and not touch any wild animals or unfamiliar domestic animals.?

Individuals can take the following actions to help prevent the spread of rabies:

• Keep vaccinations up-to-date for all dogs and cats and consider vaccinating horses against rabies. Consult your veterinarian for details.
• Keep pets confined or under direct supervision so they do not come into contact with wild animals.
• Keep children away from any wild or dead animals, including bats.
• Do not disturb bats. Instead, consult your local health department or animal control agency for assistance in dealing with potential exposure to bats.
• Contact your local health department if you are concerned about any potential rabies exposures to your family or your pets.

Blockade of learning and memory genes may occur early in Alzheimer's disease: Treatable in mice

ScienceDaily (Feb. 29, 2012) ? A repression of gene activity in the brain appears to be an early event affecting people with Alzheimer's disease, researchers funded by the National Institutes of Health have found. In mouse models of Alzheimer's disease, this epigenetic blockade and its effects on memory were treatable.

"These findings provide a glimpse of the brain shutting down the ability to form new memories gene by gene in Alzheimer's disease, and offer hope that we may be able to counteract this process," said Roderick Corriveau, Ph.D., a program director at NIH's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), which helped fund the research.

The study was led by Li-Huei Tsai, Ph.D., who is director of The Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. It was published online February 29 in Nature.

Dr. Tsai and her team found that a protein called histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) accumulates in the brain early in the course of Alzheimer's disease in mouse models and in people with the disease. HDAC2 is known to tighten up spools of DNA, effectively locking down the genes within and reducing their activity, or expression.

In the mice, the increase in HDAC2 appears to produce a blockade of genes involved in learning and memory. Preventing the build-up of HDAC2 protected the mice from memory loss.

Dr. Tsai and her team examined two mouse models of Alzheimer's around the time that the mice begin to show signs of brain cell degeneration. They found that the mice had higher levels of HDAC2, but not other related HDAC proteins, specifically in the parts of the brain involved in learning and memory. This increase in HDAC2 was associated with a decrease in the expression of neuronal genes that HDAC2 is known to regulate.

Use of a gene therapy approach to reduce the levels of HDAC2 prevented the blockade of gene expression. The treatment also prevented learning and memory impairments in the mice. It did not prevent neuronal death, but it did enhance neuroplasticity -- the ability of neurons to form new connections.

Dr. Tsai and her team also examined HDAC2 levels in autopsied brain tissue from 19 people with Alzheimer's at different stages of the disease, and from seven unaffected individuals. Even in its earliest stages, the disease was associated with higher HDAC2 levels in the learning and memory regions of the brain

"We think that the blockade of gene expression plays a very important role in the cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer's disease," said Dr. Tsai. "The good news is that the blockade is potentially reversible."

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia in older adults, and affects as many as 5.1 million Americans. In the most common type of Alzheimer's disease, symptoms usually appear after age 65. A hallmark of the disease is the accumulation of a toxic protein fragment called beta-amyloid in brain cells, which is widely believed to be the initial trigger for neurodegeneration.

Dr. Tsai theorizes that HDAC2 is brought into play by beta-amyloid. Indeed, she and her team found that exposing mouse neurons to beta-amyloid caused them to produce more HDAC2.

"We think beta-amyloid triggers a cascade of damaging reactions. Once of these is to activate HDAC2, which in turn blocks the expression of genes needed for brain plasticity. Once this blockade is in place, it may have a more systemic, chronic effect on the brain," she said.

Vaccines and other therapies aimed at reducing beta-amyloid are in clinical trials. Efforts to reduce HDAC2 may provide a complementary approach to treating Alzheimer's, Dr. Tsai said. She has previously reported that HDAC inhibitor compounds can protect against signs of Alzheimer's disease in mice. A problem with such compounds is that they inhibit not only HDAC2 but related HDAC proteins, leading to broad and potentially toxic effects. The new study supports the possibility of developing drugs more specifically targeted to HDAC2 and the pathology of Alzheimer's disease, Dr. Tsai said. Her team is working to identify HDAC2-specific inhibitors that could be developed into drugs and moved into trials.

Dr. Tsai's study was supported by NINDS and the National Institute on Aging through the NIH Common Fund Epigenomics Program. Additional support was provided through the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research and its Neuroplasticity initiative.

Bentley Bringing Plug-in SUV Concept to Geneva ...

After taking over from Franz-Josef Paefgen (r), Bentley's new CEO Woflgang Durheimer has pressed for the development of the marque's first SUV.

Big SUVs are so outr?, or so the environmentalists would have you believe, and they may be right considering the continued migration of traditional truck-based SUVs to more efficient crossovers.? So what is a Bentley to do as it prepares to bring its first sport-utility vehicle to market?? How about putting a green spin on the new offering by driving it into Geneva?s PALExpo using a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

Whether we?ll actually see Bentley deliver this battery-based powertrain to market anytime soon will be one of the big questions likely to dominate the maker?s news conference at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, next week.

The unusual approach, first reported by Automotive News, would clearly put an environmentally friendly halo around a brand not typically associated with green machines.? That could be useful considering the as yet-unnamed Bentley SUV will be going up against a wave of new luxury utes coming from makers as diverse as Maserati and Lamborghini, never mind Porsche, which will add the downsized Macan to its current Cayenne line.

Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer has been boasting about Bentley?s plans to get into the luxury ute segment since TheDetroitBureau.com first published exclusive details about the program last August.? When Durheimer took over the maker last year, the project took priority over previous plans to develop a slightly down-market version of the popular Bentley Continental line.? But the crossover-based ute will use many of the basic Continental underpinnings, anyway.

The ute will give Bentley a third model range and could mean a significant expansion in demand for a brand that peaked at about 10,000 units annually just before the global economic crash.? According to reports, Bentley is looking for the SUV to generate from 3,500 to 5,000 additional sales annually.

Bentley has tried to salve the concerns of environmentalists by boosting the overall fuel economy of its line-up by at least 20% over the next several years.? It recently added a new V-8 to the Continental range that is downright fuel efficient ? at least when compared to the classic Bentley V-12.? And its latest powertrains are dual-fuel capable, albeit few Bentley buyers ? or drivers of any brand, for that matter ? have been filling up on E-85 ethanol.

The maker has suggested it would consider a hybrid option ? clearly tapping into the expertise of its parent, Volkswagen AG.? But the idea of going plug-in hybrid is particularly intriguing.

Specifics likely won?t be released until Geneva, so it?s not clear what the battery portion of the drivetrain will be mated to but it?s unlikely the maker would migrate to something smaller than a V-8, at least not if there?s serious production intent.

While skeptics might dismiss the idea of a Bentley plug-in as a pure PR stunt, Durheimer previously indicated battery power does offer some advantages to the brand.? Like the rest of the industry, Bentley has to deal with not only increasing mileage standards but limits being placed on the use of conventional, gas-powered automobiles.? London, for example, taxes vehicles entering the central city, while other cities are considering outright bans.

The British capital waves the fee for vehicles running on battery power, however, and places like Paris have suggested battery-powered vehicles would get a pass, as well.? So, for luxury buyers, being able to switch to electric propulsion would have a practical purpose ? even if they weren?t worrying about the price of petrol.
